Lamine Yamal will be number 10 for European champions Spain

The Spanish national football team has shared this Friday its list of numbers for this Nations League break with a key novelty. Lamine Yamal will be the new number 10, inherited from the absent Dani Olmo, and will wear it in the matches against Denmark and Serbia.Lamine Yamal will wear the number 10 jersey for the first time for the Spanish national team in the matches against Denmark and Serbia in the Nations League, to be played in Murcia and Cordoba respectively.

The player of Esplugues de Llobregat is leaving behind the number 19, with which he won the title and won the award for Best Young Player at the European Championship. He scored his first international goal against France, instigating a comeback from 0-2 down in providently short order, and provided four assists while in Germany. This was an influential performance, which has continued with Barca, where he has five goals and five assists after 11 appearances.

This change is noteworthy considering that it was due to the absence of Dani Olmo, who had until then held arguably one of the finest jerseys in football history. The Barca playmaker is still recovering from an injury to his femoral biceps, making him unavailable for Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

But especially significant is Lamine Yamal’s donning of the jersey No.10. Sergio Gomez, who could make his senior international debut this window, will wear the ’19’ the latter previously sported with the Spanish team. Pedro Porro will don No.2, a jersey previously worn by Dani Carvajal.

The injury-riddled window has been an opportunity for movement of numbers. Besides the Carvajal-to-Porro change, Alex Grimaldo will wear Robin Le Normand’s No.3 and Bryan Zaragoza will wear Ferran Torres’ No.11. Pau Cubarsi will take No.15, and Mikel Merino is back after injury, resuming his role in No.6.
